I have never been described as “Earthy Crunchy.”
Lover and connoisseur of the finer things in life, sure. But “Earthy Crunchy”? Not exactly. So, as you might imagine, throwing out the majority of items in my medicine cabinet and really using only organic products has been a journey for me. Mostly a mental one.
There is still a part of me that wants to walk into all those enticing beauty stores and play with all the gorgeousness inside. What stops me is I know that sometimes (fine, a lot of times) pretty labels and packages cover up unhealthy and unnecessary ingredients. I’m still a girl that loves being pampered, loves looking and feeling good. My middle name is Lucy…but it could be luxury!
My name is Gianne, and I’m one of the founders of Organic Bath Co. I wanted to take this time to introduce myself. I, along with our blogger beauties, Amy and Abby, am behind a lot of our tweets and Instagram notes.
We started Organic Bath Co. because I had a problem, and that problem was hives! I’m not sure if it was age or if certain formulas changed, but I started breaking out in hives whenever I used some of my beloved beauty products. Hives do not look good or feel good…so I needed a solution. Lucky for me, Jay, (my best friend and boyfriend…shall we call him bf squared?) used to own a bath and body product company in Boston and had experience formulating organic products for clients. As soon as he heard my complaints and saw my hives, he knew the best products for me would be straight from mother nature.
I’m no stranger to Whole Foods. I eat organic when possible and I try to be aware of what I put IN my body. An area I overlooked? What I was putting ON my body. I’m embarrassed to admit that while I took the time to read labels and ingredients at the supermarket, I was not doing the same with the products I was putting on my face, lips and skin. Things that were toxic to ingest…I was happily rubbing on my lips! For moisture!
When I started reading the ingredients list on products as well as looking them up on the Think Dirty App or the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep Database it’s no wonder I was breaking out in hives! I’m mostly surprised that it didn’t happen sooner. I am by no means perfect now, and for the products Organic Bath does not make, I have learned to take the time to read the labels and then google the ingredients that I am unfamiliar with. I then make an educated decision if it is something that I need on my body and if it is something that will do more good than harm. My promise to myself as well as to you, is that Organic Bath will only use ethically sourced, organic ingredients in all of our products. We vow that we will only use top quality and when applicable, food-grade ingredients.
Not only are we passionate about using the best ingredients, but let’s be honest: I am still a luxury girl through and through. I want to feel pampered while taking care of my skin! Adding a few drops of precious Bulgarian Rose essential oil to a formula may seem decadent, but I’m worth it, and so are you! Trust me when I say, organic products from mother nature can still be luxurious.
The best thing about Organic Bath Co., and what I am most proud of, is our mission of giving. With a former Peace Corps Volunteer for a father and a mother who is always doing what she can for her community in Belize, giving back has never NOT been an option for me. I was taught that if you are in a position to do so, you do it. I am so proud that it is part of our mission. A percentage of each purchase will be donated to our charitable partners. You can read about more on our Giving page.
To celebrate the launch of our body washes, 20% of the proceeds from the first 100 Zesty Morning body washes sold will be donated to the Global Soap Project!
Being a small business owner certainly has its challenges, yet it is also incredibly rewarding! It’s been great connecting with our customers and hearing your feedback. The beauty & green blogger community has been incredibly welcoming. I look forward to learning from you all, sharing things I’ve learned and of course making more products you will love!
Have a fabulous weekend!
